Agree. There is a legitimate use for VAR but its arbitrary usage is deciding the outcome of games. In that Egypt clip they could have called the Argentina player for diving. In regular play the referee can’t see everything and when he does see something he has to make a split second decision as to whether to let play continue or blow the whistle. If he blows the whistle he has to judge how lightly or harshly to treat the infraction. The judgement can be influenced by prior similar infractions by the player and the general level of play. The players are used to playing within these parameters and have a general idea of what they can get away with. Suddenly the VAR gets involved in some random incident and all judgement is set aside. Actions are inspected under a microscope and mandatory punishments enforced. Yesterday we saw the VAR require a goal be negated and a red card given, determining the outcome of two games. So, I agree, keep the VAR but use more discretion in its application.
