Having Hamas survive the war is not an awful thing because:
1. Hostages are released from a living hell.
2. Israel will have carte blanche from Trump to re-invade the second Hamas starts rearming.
3. Hamas now owns 100% of Gaza misery and all that entails.
4. Gulf States will think long and hard about investing billions in Gaza knowing it will all be hoovered up into a quixotic, existential, sure-to-fail quest to destroy Israel.
5. Israel gets some relief from American and European progressive idiots who see Israel as the world's great villain.
In short, the ceasefire lets Hamas fail under the weight of its own regressive regime. Perhaps the useful western idiots actually begin to understand that Hamas represents repression, autocracy, and purposeful immolation of its own people and not some plucky liberation movement.
Possible additional benefit: Israel gets Trump acquiesce in an attack on Iranian nukes as quid pro quo for ending the war.
As long as Hamas survives in power, Israeli and Palestinians are the losers. Hamas will rearm and will do Oct 7 again. We know it and they have sworn to do it, again and again. The only way the region gets some peace and security is with the destruction of Iran and all her proxies, including Hamas.
It is incredible to me that a General in the Reserves would undermine its government while the country is at war but that being said I have two comments:
1. We don’t know all of the details of the deal and its conditions; and
2. We don’t know what Trump and Netanyahu have agreed to on the Iranian front.
The two sides are just setting themselves up for the next hot conflict. It will take a while for Hamas to fill their ranks, but there are plenty of takers!! Better to be a warrior, than work in Uncle Sayeed’s grocery store!
For most politicians, and I include those in the US, country comes 4th:
1. Self
2. Family
3. Party
4. Country
I don’t mean the following literally, but if I had Smotrich, Ben Gvir, and the current head of Hamas lined up in front of me, and I only had 2 bullets, Mr Hamas would survive.
Ben Gvir and Smotrich are abhorrent.
The great pity is the power that they have due to the anti democratic Haredim.
Well, since one can argue that had Trump won in 2020, October 7th would have never happened and the counter-revolution in Iran would have likely happened already, then this Substack question is mute….

MAGA Jews who screeched for years that their Orange God Trump would be better for Israel than Biden are going to be in for a rude awakening.
